Registration form for the Data Excellence Science training

Global Data Excellence has partnered with the Department of Automatic Language Processing (TAL) and CRIT to offer the short Data Excellence Science (DES) training program. This training provides an introduction to, and then a deeper exploration of, value-based data governance at the intersection of artificial intelligence, linguistics, data quality, and governance.

Built around the Data Excellence Framework (DEF) and the DEMS-NIXUS platform, it combines strategic vision, methodology, and hands-on practice. Its goal is to help participants better understand the maturity of their data, structure sustainable governance, and oversee the use of AI in a responsible, ethical, and sovereign way.

Program

The training is delivered in two complementary levels.

The beginner level introduces the foundations of Data Excellence Science, including the distinction between performance-based governance and value-based governance, as well as key concepts such as DEMM, DEI, KVI, DEF, and the role of DEMS in structuring data governance.

The advanced level goes further into the operational implementation of DEF and DEMS, advanced semantic modeling, configuration of governance rules, design of intelligent cockpits, prioritization through KVI and DEI indicators, and governance of AI-related risks. It also includes a written exam, a practical exercise on DEMS, a handwritten paper, and an oral defense.

Target audience

The training is aimed at senior executives, administrators, legal and compliance professionals, as well as managers and consultants working in digital transformation, data, or AI. It is also open to Master’s students and PhD candidates, particularly from TAL, computer science, law, or management, who are interested in data governance.

Admission requirements

Admission requires a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification at Bac+3 / BSc / VAE level. No technical prerequisites are required to join the training, but access to the advanced level requires prior completion of the beginner level.

Teaching format

The training takes place in person at the UFR SLHS in downtown Besançon. The teaching approach combines interdisciplinary theory, case studies, practical workshops, team projects, flipped classroom methods, maturity assessment of organizations, and no-code practice on DEMS. Participants must bring their laptop.

The program is supervised by an academic and industry team including Dr. Walid El Abed, Prof. Iana Atanassova, and experts from Global Data Excellence.

Basic level

The DES beginner level introduces the foundations of Data Excellence Science and the difference between performance-based and value-based governance. It helps participants understand key concepts such as DEMM, DEI, KVI, DEF, and the role of DEMS in building sustainable data governance.

Understand the challenges of responsible, traceable, and explainable AI.

Practical information

Dates: 18/09/20026 – 26/09/2026 or 19/03/2027 – 27/03/2027. The classes take place on Fridays and Saturdays.
Duration: 14 hours in total.
Format: 12 hours of in-person training and 2 hours of written examination.
Location: UFR SLHS, downtown Besançon.
Fee: 500 euros.

Advanced level

The DES advanced level goes deeper into the operational implementation of DEF and DEMS to steer value, performance, and risk within organizations. It focuses on AI governance, configuration of governance rules, design of intelligent cockpits, and prioritization of actions based on KVI and DEI indicators.

What this level offers

Implement DEF in real business scenarios.
Configure and use DEMS in natural language, with no code.
Design contextualized dashboards and intelligent cockpits.
Strengthen governance of AI-related and data-related risks.
Develop prioritized action plans based on value created.

Practical information

Dates: 09/04/2027 – 24/04/2027, including the oral defense scheduled for June 5, 2027.
Duration: 37 hours in total.
Format: 30 hours in person, 4 hours of examination, and 3 hours of oral defense.
Location: UFR SLHS, downtown Besançon.
Fee: 1,100 euros.
Access condition: completion of the beginner level.

Final enrollment becomes official after academic approval, completion of administrative and financial formalities with SeFoC’Al, and once the minimum number of participants required to open the program has been reached.
